Ganja Mann had no real intention to start rapping when he did. He hadn’t spent his life pining for
a spot on the charts or winning a Grammy. His rap motivation was simple. “I ain’t wanna work,”
he says, matter-of-factly. “I worked a job for 10 years! From 17 to 27 and I hustled. I was
established first.”
Born and raised in Detroit, Ganja remembers having to move often, so it makes sense that his
mindset is rooted in the business side of things. “When I lived in Detroit, we probably lived in 80
different houses in my life,” he shares. “And in Birmingham, maybe 30 different houses when I
moved out there. Then I married at an early age, I was like 22 or 23.”
Stability is at the top of Ganja’s mind at all times. He was so busy at work and growing a family,
while making his money on the streets of Birmingham in those days. Building a rap career was
truly at the bottom of the list and if it wasn’t for his manager encouraging him to take his natural
talent more seriously, he probably never even would have considered it. "I had a studio in my
house,” he recalls. “So that's when I decided to rap but I wasn’t into it for real… But in 2019 is
when I really started putting money behind it.”
And the effort paid off -- the capital too, if we’re being honest.
2019 was the year Ganja met Young Dolph and the two wound up releasing “Bally Bag” in 2021.
It was in 2019 that Ganja started traveling to Atlanta and Los Angeles on the weekends. “I
wasn’t known for rapping, I was known for trapping,” he offers. “It was more like respect that
made people start rocking with me. I already know… When I started, it took me a minute to
learn how to make good music. I’m a beast now though. I put myself in the realm with 2 Chainz
and Rick Ross.”
The comparisons make sense, especially when Ganja shares that he considers himself
something of a motivational speaker. Both 2 Chainz and Rozay are known for their penchant to
inspire through opulent lyricism, and Ganja Mann aims to do the same, while building a
business meant to last. He already has his trucking enterprise -- founded shortly after leaving
his job at 27. His studio and production company both fall under the Trap Babies LLC and his
next objective is already underway.
“My major goal is to be like Top Dawg [of TDE]. I wanna grow a whole empire. A whole label. I
wanna start off as The Ganja Mann and keep going,” he says, excitedly. “For me to be able to
make millions and put other people on so they can make millions too. I need to make millions
out the rap game first and have other people make these millions with me…”
Nothing is out of reach for Ganja Mann, as proven. The recently released Harvest Season EP is
indicative of the way he’s moving in today’s rap game. “For me, it’s more about putting all that
money into it,” he reveals with a chuckle. “I done put hundreds of thousands of dollars in this, it’s
like, I ain’t got no choice. The game took so much from me, it’s time for me to get something
back now.”
